Atoms For Peace : Default

Track artwork

After a couple of years getting fans extremely hot under the collar with occasional gigs and a lot of speculation, this past weekend has seen a sudden flurry of activity from Atoms For Peace , the “supergroup” featuring Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, his longtime production cohort Nigel Godrich and Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ bassist Flea alongside drummer Joey Waronker (Beck, Smashing Pumpkins, REM etc.) and Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco. Not only did Yorke and Godrich debut several new songs during their DJ set at this year’s final MoMA PS1 Warm Up show, but the group have finally released their official debut single; “Default” (available to download now, with a physical release due soon via XL Recordings) is a jittery, rhythmic slice of avant-electronica, and Yorke has hinted that an album will follow next year.

My name is Michael Dix; I'm a decade or so past being down with the kids, but to me new music never gets old. Apparently I like music that sounds like faulty kitchen appliances and ritual slaughter; really I just like what I like, whether that happens to be indie, pop, punk, hip hop, metal, electronica, Afrobeat or jazz. Follow me on Twitter @FoamHandsBlog to receive notifications of new posts and the occasional random brain-fart, and please share links wherever you can. Enjoy!
