Liz : Underdogs ft. Riff Raff

Track artwork

As the sheer number of artists currently referencing the mainstream pop-soul of the 1990s (oh, hey Autre Ne Veut) proves, so-called “guilty pleasures” are no longer anything to feel guilty about, so if you’re still giddy from Beyonce’s awesome Superbowl show, here’s a way to keep that buzz going a little while longer. On her debut single for Mad Decent imprint Jeffrees, California girl Liz offers the perfect mix of bubblegum pop and futuristic beats for those who can’t choose between Robyn and Rihanna, which might just explain why label boss Diplo is such a fan; A-side “XTC” is a Brandy-esque slow-jam, whilst on the flip “Underdogs”, featuring rapper Riff Raff, is a more club-friendly banger. Listen to the latter track below.

My name is Michael Dix; I'm a decade or so past being down with the kids, but to me new music never gets old. Apparently I like music that sounds like faulty kitchen appliances and ritual slaughter; really I just like what I like, whether that happens to be indie, pop, punk, hip hop, metal, electronica, Afrobeat or jazz.
