Julianna Barwick : Pacing

It’s snowing again. It never seems to stop nowadays. Twelve year-old me would have been jumping for joy, looking for the nearest flat object to go bombing downhill on, but twenty years on I’m just pissed at the fact I’m going to have to get out of bed half an hour earlier tomorrow to clear my car for the journey to work. On the plus side, the snow slowly falling in front of the streetlight outside my window makes a rather nice visual accompaniment to this new 7″ single from Julianna Barwick; out March 5 on the Suicide Squeeze label, “Pacing” pulses and flickers like a candle in a glass jar, the singer’s looped vocal samples billowing gently around a mournful piano line. She’s currently working on the follow-up to her gorgeous 2011 full-length The Magic Place, which is welcome news indeed; unlike the snow, Barwick’s voice is something I’ll never tire of.

About foamhands

My name is Michael Dix; I'm a decade or so past being down with the kids, but to me new music never gets old. Apparently I like music that sounds like faulty kitchen appliances and ritual slaughter; really I just like what I like, whether that happens to be indie, pop, punk, hip hop, metal, electronica, Afrobeat or jazz. Follow me on Twitter @FoamHandsBlog to receive notifications of new posts and the occasional random brain-fart, and please share links wherever you can. Enjoy!
