Track of the day : Beck : I Won’t Be Long

Listen: Beck:

Who? Alt-folk troubadour turned slacker icon turned B-boy turned funked-up soul man turned reclusive prankster Beck.
.
What? A new, out of the blue single (his second in quick succession following last month’s “Defriended“), entitled “I Won’t Be Long”, which will be available shortly on 12″ backed with a 15 minute extended mix.
.
Why? For one thing, it’s quite simply a great tune, one that finds Mr. Hansen pairing the glitchy electronica of the aforementioned “Defriended” with smooth, wistful synth-pop. Perhaps more importantly, it implies that after breaking a half-decade spell of radio silence with a perform-it-yourself sheet-music “album” (Song Reader), Beck is ready to stop playing the prankster and remind us all why he’s one of our most cherished artists. A welcome return.

My name is Michael Dix; I'm a decade or so past being down with the kids, but to me new music never gets old. Apparently I like music that sounds like faulty kitchen appliances and ritual slaughter; really I just like what I like, whether that happens to be indie, pop, punk, hip hop, metal, electronica, Afrobeat or jazz. Follow me on Twitter @FoamHandsBlog to receive notifications of new posts and the occasional random brain-fart, and please share links wherever you can. Enjoy!
