Track of the day: Nedelle Torrisi : Double Horizon

Who? Ex-Cryptacize singer and Sufjan Stevens band member gone solo (and trainee social worker) Nedelle Torrisi.
Where? Los Angeles, California.
What? “Double Horizon” is the first taste of Torrisi’s upcoming self-released, self-titled solo album, out September 3, which was produced by her housemate Kenny Gilmore (Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti) and features contributions from Julia Holter, Ramona Gonzalez (Nite Jewel) and Dev Hynes (Blood Orange).
Why? Torrisi’s pop-soul stylings and Gilmore’s gonzo musical direction (the APHG man played the majority of instruments on the album) makes for an interesting, irresistable combination; referencing the likes of Prince, Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan along with contemporaries such as Jessie Ware and Solange, “Double Horizon” is at once effortlessly elegant and boisterous, funky fun, like Audrey Hepburn frolicking in a paddling pool in a neon swimsuit and deely-boppers on a hot Summer day. Absolutely glorious.

My name is Michael Dix; I'm a decade or so past being down with the kids, but to me new music never gets old. Apparently I like music that sounds like faulty kitchen appliances and ritual slaughter; really I just like what I like, whether that happens to be indie, pop, punk, hip hop, metal, electronica, Afrobeat or jazz.
