Track of the day : Willis Earl Beal : Too Dry To Cry

Nobody Knows

Chicago’s Willis Earl Beal started out as a busker before recording his debut album Acousmatic Sorcery on a karaoke machine using borrowed and found instruments; on follow-up Nobody Knows (out September 10 via XL) he has taken full advantage of having a proper studio at his disposal. From the sounds of previously leaked track “Everything Unwinds” and now “Too Dry To Cry” (below), he’s taken to hi-fidelity recording like a duck to water. Whilst the clearer production throws Beal’s soulful croon into the spotlight on both songs, it’s the raunchy, stomping blues of the latter that really hits you in the gut; check it out below.

About foamhands

My name is Michael Dix; I'm a decade or so past being down with the kids, but to me new music never gets old. Apparently I like music that sounds like faulty kitchen appliances and ritual slaughter; really I just like what I like, whether that happens to be indie, pop, punk, hip hop, metal, electronica, Afrobeat or jazz. Follow me on Twitter @FoamHandsBlog to receive notifications of new posts and the occasional random brain-fart, and please share links wherever you can. Enjoy!
