Track of the day : Big Sean : Fire

To date, Detroit’s Big Sean is probably better known as a feature rapper than a big-name artist in his own right, thanks to guest appearances on tracks by the likes of The-Dream, 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, Tyga and his label boss Kanye West; a little unfair, perhaps, but even Sean himself admits that his debut album – 2011’s Finally Famous – fell a fair way short of what he wanted to achieve with it. He’s hoping to rectify that with his sophomore LP Hall Of Fame, scheduled for release on August 27, and if the hooky and ebullient (if slightly psychedelic) “Fire” is any indication of the standard by which he measures himself nowadays, we should soon see Sean rising through the ranks to take his rightful spot in the G.O.O.D. Music first team. Listen below.

My name is Michael Dix; I'm a decade or so past being down with the kids, but to me new music never gets old. Apparently I like music that sounds like faulty kitchen appliances and ritual slaughter; really I just like what I like, whether that happens to be indie, pop, punk, hip hop, metal, electronica, Afrobeat or jazz.
