Track of the day : Bill Callahan : Expanding Dub

One-time Smog man Bill Callahan will release Dream River – the fourth studio LP under his given name – on September 17 via Drag City, and although we have yet to hear any material from the record itself the label have just made available one side of a 7″ single (out August 19) that will feature dub versions of two of the album’s tracks. “Expanding Dub”, below, is a reworking of “Javelin Unlanding” (the other side, “High In The Mid-40s Dub”, appears on Dream River as “Winter Road”), and although it gives little idea of what the original might sound like, it’s an intriguing, amusing teaser that only serves to make us more excited for what is sure to be one of the year’s best albums.

My name is Michael Dix; I'm a decade or so past being down with the kids, but to me new music never gets old. Apparently I like music that sounds like faulty kitchen appliances and ritual slaughter; really I just like what I like, whether that happens to be indie, pop, punk, hip hop, metal, electronica, Afrobeat or jazz.
