Blank Realm : Grassed In

Blank Realm - Falling Down The Stairs

Another pretty, prickly flower blooms in the baking Australian desert as prolific Brisbane four-piece Blank Realm add to their already weighty catalogue with new long-player, the sugar-sweet and sassily sloppy Grassed Inn. If the beefy rhythms and polished sound of 2012’s excellent Go Easy often leaned towards Flaming Lips-style fluorescent space pop, here the quartet – siblings Daniel (drums) and Sarah (synths) Spencer trading sugar-sweet melodies and punk-rock sneers alongside brother Luke on bass and guitarist/ producer Luke Walsh – reach further back in time, drawing inspiration from first-wave psychedelic rock (the Zombies, Love) and the jangling guitars of the C86 movement and bleaching the results in grungy lo-fi squall. The album is out January 13 via Bedroom Suck Records/ Fire Records; listen to “Falling Down The Stairs” below.

About foamhands

My name is Michael Dix; I'm a decade or so past being down with the kids, but to me new music never gets old. Apparently I like music that sounds like faulty kitchen appliances and ritual slaughter; really I just like what I like, whether that happens to be indie, pop, punk, hip hop, metal, electronica, Afrobeat or jazz. Follow me on Twitter @FoamHandsBlog to receive notifications of new posts and the occasional random brain-fart, and please share links wherever you can. Enjoy!
